The wind is a powerful, yet sometimes elusive thing. Unlike God, it is not always constant. He is with us, whether we always feel it or not. Ever had that whimsical distant feeling from a close friend? We all have. Why shouldn’t our feelings play the same tricks on our hearts and minds when it comes to God? Sometimes we feel like God isn’t there, or doesn’t care, but He is and He does. I can’t see the wind, except evidenced by leaves blowing across the ground or swaying the trees in its wake, or ripples and waves on a body of water. If you’re not looking, you don’t see it. At the same time, we certainly are capable of feeling God’s presence. Like being isolated in a building, if we don’t open the curtains and windows of our souls and let Him in, we are in darkness. By the same token we need to step outside our comfort zone sometimes to greet Him. God likes to speak in whispers most of the time, a gentle breeze on a sunny day. Sometimes, however, He shouts to us. He wants to bless us, whether we deserve it or not. His grace is sufficient.
9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ~ 2 Chorinthians 12:9 NKJV
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. ~ Ephesians 2: 8-9
See, there isn’t anything we can do in our own power to truly please God. But, things happen when we surrender ourselves in repentance, glorify Him in all things and seek first His kingdom. What I’m getting at is that works, good deeds, being a good person, even good character isn’t enough. We need a savior to rescue us from our wickedness. He is so Holy, Good, Sovereign… He is Love. We will never attain or come close to that good. Nothing we do will ever come close to His greatness. Our works will never suffice.
6 But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away. ~ Isaiah 64:6 NKJV
The only way to please God is by faith. Submission to Him as all powerful, all knowing, and loving regardless of our circumstances.
6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. ~ Hebrews 11:6 NKJV
He blesses all of us, the rain falls on the just and the unjust, but we are tested in our faith. When things look the darkest, most bleak, for those with faith, who don’t lose their faith, God blesses abundantly. As Hebrews 11:6 states, “He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Why is it so hard for people to find God? Simply, many of us throw in the towel too soon. We don’t forgive our neighbor (spouse, family, friends, acquaintances), we write off blessings to our own strengths (who, do you think gave you that strength?), we see the world as the world wants us to see things. Many believe there is no God because bad things happen to good people. But, we are not to conform to this world.
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. ~Romans 12:2
We renew our minds by studying His word and seeking His presence. If we had the slightest notion of how much He truly loves us, we couldn’t help but love Him back. So many refuse to see His goodness, His purity, or Holiness. That is tragic at best. He sends people to minister to us, He knows you by name, has numbered the hairs on your head, but, because life is messy, we assume He doesn’t. It’s not He who takes the bumps out of the road, but gives us comfort during those hard knocks and difficult times. He gives us hope. We have an enemy, that, when you know God, becomes just as visible as the wind. Not always transparent, but visible. When you feel at your worst, and everything is coming down around you, open the curtains, let the light in and feel the gentle love of God pour out on you as you open the window. Only you can open it. He’s waiting on the other side. Honestly, what is there to loose?
“He is a great gentleman. He will not push us to go deeper when we’re not ready. He patiently waits to be desired.”
